Why tether to an Android phone

The best-known phone tethering apps are iPhone-only — CloudTether runs on Android.

Keeps tethering in the background and with the screen locked.

Uploads over mobile data, so venue Wi-Fi never blocks delivery.

Every full-resolution frame to Dropbox, Google Drive, a client gallery, FTP and more.

Tether two cameras at once into their own albums.

How Android tethering works

1. Connect

Plug the camera into your phone with a USB-C cable (USB OTG), or join the camera's Wi-Fi. Pick the album its shots go to.

2. Shoot

Every capture is detected automatically and the full-resolution file — RAW or JPEG — transfers to your phone.

3. Deliver

Each frame uploads to your cloud destination over mobile data, in the cloud within seconds of capture.

Android tethering FAQ

Is there a camera tethering app for Android?

Yes. CloudTether runs on Android phones and tablets (Android 6.0 or later). Connect a Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm and many other cameras over USB-C or the camera's Wi-Fi, and every shot transfers to the phone and on to the cloud as you shoot.

Is there a Cascable or ShutterSnitch for Android?

Cascable and ShutterSnitch are iPhone and iPad apps. On Android, CloudTether covers the tethering-to-phone side — pulling every full-resolution frame off the camera — and adds delivery to Dropbox, Google Drive, client galleries and FTP as you shoot.

How do I connect my camera to an Android phone?

With a USB-C cable (your phone needs USB OTG support, which most modern Android phones have), or by joining the camera's own Wi-Fi from the phone. CloudTether's connect screen walks you through the camera-side setting for your brand and model.

Does tethering keep running when the screen is off?

Yes. On Android, CloudTether runs a foreground service with a notification, so captures keep downloading and uploading while you're in another app or the phone is locked. On some Samsung phones, the security setting 'Block USB connections while locked' cuts USB cameras off when the phone locks — the app tells you if that happens and how to turn it off.

Does it work on iPhone too?

Yes — CloudTether runs on Android, iPhone and iPad, with the same albums and destinations across your devices.
