SFTP

SSH File Transfer Protocol

SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) uploads and manages files on a server over an encrypted SSH connection, usually on port 22. It isn't FTP with encryption.

SFTP runs inside SSH, the same secure connection administrators use to log in to servers, so the password and the files are both encrypted in transit. Despite the name it's a different protocol from FTP. FTPS is the one that adds TLS encryption to classic FTP; plain FTP sends everything, including the password, unencrypted.

Newsrooms, agencies, studios and NAS boxes often accept photos over SFTP. CloudTether can deliver every shot to an SFTP, FTPS or FTP server as you shoot; paths start at the upload account's login folder, so set that account's home (or chroot) to where the photos should go.

Put it into practice

CloudTether tethers your camera to your phone and delivers every shot to the cloud, live as you shoot — no laptop.
