Chroot
change root
A chroot locks a server account into one directory, so that folder looks like the root (/) to that user and nothing outside it can be seen or reached.
Server admins often chroot SFTP and FTP upload accounts: the account can only see its own folder, which then appears as “/”. It's a simple way to give a photographer or a client an upload login that can't wander around the rest of the server.
It also decides where uploads land. CloudTether treats a destination's folder as relative to the account's login folder — on a chrooted account that's the chroot itself — so pointing the account's home or chroot at the target folder is the most reliable set-up.
