Pixieset live upload from your camera: what works today
Short answer: there's no way to send photos from your camera into a Pixieset collection automatically as you shoot, because Pixieset doesn't offer an upload connection other apps can use. You can still get photos to clients during the shoot — with a live gallery or folder on the day, and Pixieset for the final delivery.
Why there's no live upload to Pixieset
Live upload needs two things: something that gets each photo off the camera as it's taken, and a way to put it into the gallery. CloudTether does the first for Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm, over USB or Wi-Fi to your phone. The second depends on the gallery service letting other apps add photos. Pixieset doesn't offer a public upload interface for that, so no tethering app can add photos to a Pixieset collection for you. CloudTether tried an experimental Pixieset connection and retired it rather than ship something unreliable. Photos reach Pixieset through Pixieset's own upload tools.
Workflow 1: a live gallery on the day, Pixieset for the final
Many photographers split the job. During the event, CloudTether fills a gallery that does accept live uploads — a SmugMug gallery, a ShootProof event or, for events where guests search for themselves, a Photohawk gallery — or a shared Dropbox or Google Drive folder the client can open on their phone. After the event you edit as usual and deliver the finished set in Pixieset, where your client's collection, branding and store already live. The live gallery is the sneak peek; Pixieset is the keepsake.
Workflow 2: tether to a folder, upload your selects to Pixieset
If you want everything to end up in Pixieset, tether to a folder first. CloudTether sends every full-resolution shot to Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive as you shoot (or keeps them on the phone with “This phone only”). Between sets or at the end of the day, pick your selects from that folder and upload them to the Pixieset collection with Pixieset's own uploader. You skip the card reader and the import, and every frame is backed up off the camera before you start.
Workflow 3: same-day previews by link
When the client only needs a handful of frames on the day — a couple at their reception, a PR team after a keynote — send JPEG-only, 2048 px copies to a shared Dropbox or Google Drive folder and send them the link. On Canon and Nikon, turn on “Only shots I rate in camera” so only the frames you star are sent. The full gallery follows in Pixieset as normal.
Settings that make it work
Shoot RAW+JPEG and turn on “JPEG only — leave RAW files on the camera” for the fastest uploads over mobile data; client galleries don't need RAW files. Set the shoot's Delivery resolution to Web (2048 px) for previews. Use a USB cable when you can — in our app logs a Canon EOS R5 Mark II JPEG reached the phone in a median 0.06 s over USB against 0.20 s over Wi-Fi. And if the venue has no signal, keep shooting: shots wait on the phone and upload when it returns.
If Pixieset adds an upload connection
If Pixieset opens an upload connection that other apps can use, a direct CloudTether destination becomes possible and this guide will say so. Until then, the honest answer is a live gallery or folder for the day and Pixieset for the delivery — which is how most photographers who use Pixieset work anyway.
FAQ
Can I upload photos to Pixieset live while I shoot?
Not automatically. Pixieset doesn't offer an upload connection other apps can use, so photos can't be sent from your camera into a Pixieset collection as you shoot. Use a live gallery or shared folder on the day and Pixieset for the final delivery.
Does CloudTether support Pixieset?
No. CloudTether tested an experimental Pixieset connection and retired it, because Pixieset has no public upload interface. CloudTether delivers live to SmugMug, ShootProof, Photohawk, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, FTP/SFTP and more.
What's the fastest way to get photos into Pixieset after a shoot?
Tether to Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive while you shoot so every frame is already off the camera and backed up, then upload your edited selects to Pixieset with its own uploader — no card reader or import step.
Which galleries can I fill live from my camera?
With CloudTether: SmugMug galleries, ShootProof events and albums, Photohawk galleries, Google Photos and Lightroom albums, Flickr, Frame.io, and folders in Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, S3 or your own FTP/SFTP server.
Can clients see photos during a wedding or event without Pixieset?
Yes. Send JPEGs to a shared Dropbox or Google Drive folder, or a SmugMug or ShootProof gallery, and they appear seconds after you take them. On Canon and Nikon you can send only the shots you rate on the camera.
