Is there an app that uploads photos from my camera to Google Drive while I shoot?
Google Drive is where a lot of teams already share work, but nothing on a camera uploads to it directly. The camera makers' apps send small copies to the phone's library at best, so the usual route is still cards, a laptop and an upload at the end of the day.
The short answer
Install CloudTether on an iPhone, iPad or Android phone, connect the camera by USB cable or Wi-Fi, choose Google Drive and a folder, and shoot. Each photo, RAW or JPEG, is downloaded to the phone and uploaded to that folder as you work, with a subfolder per shoot. A Shared Drive works too, so a whole team sees the photos at once.
Which cameras
Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm cameras over USB, verified by us on the Canon EOS R7 and R5 Mark II, Nikon Z6, Sony ZV-E10 and Fujifilm X-T3. Over Wi-Fi it's verified on Canon; other bodies use the same standard protocol and are marked as not yet tested by us. Check yours with the camera compatibility checker.
What it doesn't need
No laptop, card reader or camera transmitter. If the venue has no signal, the shots wait on the phone and upload by themselves when it's back. On a phone hotspot or mobile data, uploads carry on even while the phone is joined to the camera's own Wi-Fi.
Google Drive or Google Photos?
Drive keeps the original files in folders you control, which suits RAW and client delivery; Google Photos is better for viewing and sharing albums. CloudTether can send to either, or both at once.
FAQ
Does it upload the full-resolution file or a smaller copy?
The full-resolution file the camera writes, RAW or JPEG. You can choose JPEG-only or a smaller size per destination if you prefer.
Can it upload to a Shared Drive?
Yes. Pick a folder in a Shared Drive and everyone with access sees each photo as it lands.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, a 7-day free trial in the app, with everything included.
